[00:00] [THEME MUSIC: lo-fi beats with a soft Japanese koto layered over Brazilian beach percussion]
ANNOUNCER: You're listening to The Global SEO Classroom, the official podcast of SEO Hobby Expert School — where two students chase Wi-Fi across the planet, and one teacher chases the algorithm. Class is in session.
[00:45]
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Welcome back, everyone. Before we begin — roll call. Maya, where in the world are you today?
MATCHA MAYA: [sound of a bamboo whisk] Konnichiwa, Professor! I'm in a 200-year-old tea house in Kyoto. The owner lets me study here as long as I order one matcha per hour. I am on my fourth hour, so I am extremely focused right now.
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: [waves, seagulls] And I'm on a beach in Floripa, Brazil! Laptop under a palm tree, açaí bowl the size of a helmet. The Wi-Fi is... how do I say it... spiritual. If I freeze mid-sentence, that's not me, that's the router.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Two continents, one curriculum. Perfect. Today is a special live case study. A real blog — a video virality blog — came to us with 44 URLs, a broken architecture, and a serious identity crisis. Over the past weeks we audited it, upgraded it, and rescued it. Today, I walk you through exactly what we did, and why. Open your notebooks.
📖 Lesson 1: The Audit — Scoring 44 URLs Without Mercy
[02:10]
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Maya, when a sitemap with 44 URLs lands on your desk, what is the very first move?
MATCHA MAYA: You score every page, no feelings attached. We graded each URL from 0 to 100 across five parameters: slug quality, EEAT & depth, technical & schema, grammar, and overall score. The results were... humbling.
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: Humbling is the word. The upgraded 2026 cluster pages scored 95 and above. But the old 2024 archive? 38... 39... 40... It was like a museum with the lights turned off. Great exhibits, nobody can find them.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: And one page scored 32. A page whose address was... [dramatic pause] ...blog-post.html.
[SOUND EFFECT: dramatic sting]
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: Bro. blog-post. The default slug. I felt that in my soul.
📚 CLASS NOTES — LESSON 1
- Audit every URL on a 0–100 scale: Slug Quality, EEAT & Depth, Tech & Schema, Grammar, Overall.
- Group results into tiers: Critical (<50), Needs Work (50–89), Optimized (90+).
- You cannot fix what you refuse to measure.
📖 Lesson 2: Slug Surgery & the Mail-Forwarding Trick
[06:30]
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: Okay teach, I gotta ask. Why is blog-post.html such a big deal? The content was our best stuff — the TikTok Algorithm 2026 guide!
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Açaí, imagine opening a world-famous restaurant... at the address "Building 12, Room 3." The food is incredible, but nobody can remember the address, nobody can tell their friends, and the map app just shrugs. The slug is your page's street address. blog-post tells Google nothing. tiktok-algorithm-2026 tells Google everything.
MATCHA MAYA: So we changed the permalink to a custom one in Blogger. But Professor — didn't changing the address break the old URL? Any old links would hit a 404.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: They would have — which is why step two is non-negotiable: a 301 redirect. In Blogger it lives under Settings → Errors and redirects → Custom redirects. Old path in the "From" box, new path in the "To" box, check "Permanent." For the deeper playbook on URL hygiene and ranking, revisit our Video SEO 2.0 guide.
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: So a 301 is like... mail forwarding! You move house, but your letters follow you.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Exactly. Your visitors follow you, and — critically — your link equity follows you. Never abandon an old URL. Always forward it.
📚 CLASS NOTES — LESSON 2
- Set custom permalinks before first publish: keyword-rich, lowercase, hyphenated.
- Changing a slug later? Always pair it with a 301 redirect.
- A 404 is a dead end. A 301 is a doorway.
📖 Lesson 3: The Great Deletion — When Good Content Lives in the Wrong House
[11:00]
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Now, the hardest lesson of the semester. Açaí — what was the strangest page on this blog?
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: Oh man. A two-thousand-word article about the Strait of Hormuz oil crisis. On a video virality blog! It scored 15 out of 100. And here's the tragedy — it was genuinely well written! The grammar score was 95!
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Beautifully written. And actively poisoning the site. Imagine a pizzeria famous for its margherita. One day, the chef adds sushi to the menu. Excellent sushi! But now when the city asks "where's the best pizza?", the critics are confused. Google is that critic. That page was sushi in a pizzeria. This is exactly the kind of quality gate the PVP Framework was built to enforce.
MATCHA MAYA: So we deleted it. I confess — I felt a little grief. Good content, wrong home.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Grief is appropriate. Deletion is still the right call. Remember the decision tree: for off-topic content, three doors — noindex if it has private value, redirect if a relevant page can absorb it, delete if it serves no one. We deleted, redirected the old URL to our strongest algorithm pillar, and wrote the Prevention Protocol. Maya, recite it.
MATCHA MAYA: [whisking intensifies] One: Keyword Alignment Test — does the topic contain our core entity terms? Two: Cluster Mapping — can it link to two pillars and receive two inbound links? Three: Audience Intent Check — would a reader of our TikTok guide find this helpful, or confused? If confused... it does not get published.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Flawless. That protocol is now the bouncer at the door of this blog.
📚 CLASS NOTES — LESSON 3
- Topical authority > content volume. One off-topic page can confuse your site's entire entity.
- Off-topic decision tree: Noindex → Redirect → Delete.
- Install a pre-publish protocol: Keyword Alignment, Cluster Mapping, Audience Intent.
📖 Lesson 4: Pillar Pages & Teaching Machines to Quote You
[15:30]
MATCHA MAYA: My favorite part! We upgraded eight pillar pages specifically for AI search engines — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity. Professor, explain why machines read pages differently than humans do.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: A human reads your page like a novel. An LLM reads it like a warehouse — it's hunting for clearly labeled boxes. A Direct Answer box is a labeled box: two or three sentences, bold and quotable, sitting right under the H1. FAQ schema is another labeled box. Breadcrumbs tell the machine which shelf the box lives on. We documented the whole method in our AI predictors review.
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: And the 1-3-1 rule! One internal link in the intro, three in the body, one in the bio or conclusion. More than that and you look spammy. Less, and your cluster starves. Balance, like a good açaí bowl.
MATCHA MAYA: We also added JSON-LD BreadcrumbList and FAQPage schema, "Last Updated" timestamps for EEAT, author bios, and mobile-friendly tables wrapped in overflow-x divs. Our LLM Visibility Score went from 72 toward a target of 95.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Correct. And here is the secret none of you should forget: optimizing for AI and optimizing for humans stopped being two different jobs in 2026. Clear structure serves both.
📚 CLASS NOTES — LESSON 4
- Add "📌 Direct Answer" boxes: concise, quotable, source-cited.
- Wrap FAQs in JSON-LD
FAQPageschema; addBreadcrumbListschema. - Internal links: the 1-3-1 rule, always with descriptive anchor text.
- H1 → H2 → H3 hierarchy. No skipped levels. Machines hate skipped levels.
📖 Lesson 5: The Internal Linking Web — Building Roads to Orphan Pages
[20:15]
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Final lesson. A blog is a city, and internal links are the roads. Our audit found orphan pages — buildings with no road leading to them. frame-deadly-sync scored 59 not because it was weak, but because nobody could reach it.
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: So we built roads in tiers! Tier 1: critical fixes in 48 hours — the slug rename, the archive bridges. Tier 2: cluster-building in 7 days — pairing the-fyp-is-dead with dark-social-sharing, making the AI articles a triangle. Tier 3: archive revival in 30 days — "Updated for 2026" notices on the old posts pointing up to the new pillars.
MATCHA MAYA: And for the two pages fighting over the same keyword, we used a canonical tag — telling Google: "this old page is the draft; the 101 guide is the official version." No more cannibalization. The siblings stopped fighting.
PROFESSOR EXPERT: [chuckles] And with that, the city has roads, the pizzeria has one menu, the warehouse has labeled boxes, and every house has a real address. The rescue is complete.
📚 CLASS NOTES — LESSON 5
- Orphan pages leak authority. Every page needs ≥2 inbound contextual links.
- Remediate in tiers: 48 hours / 7 days / 30 days.
- Canonical tags resolve keyword cannibalization between legacy and updated pages.
✏️ Homework & Travel Check-Out
[24:40]
PROFESSOR EXPERT: Homework. Maya — you're in Kyoto. Find that tea house's website and audit its slugs and internal links. Açaí — find a surf school in Floripa and check whether their blog is topically focused or serving sushi. Both of you: submit a mini link-map by Friday via the school portal.
MATCHA MAYA: Hai, sensei! I'll ask the owner between my fifth and sixth matcha.
AÇAÍ GOMEZ: Surf school homework?! BEST. HOMEWORK. EVER. Oh no — [static] — seagull just circled the açaí — Professor, if I go quiet, defend my bowl—
[SOUND EFFECT: seagull shriek, laptop clatter, wave crash]
PROFESSOR EXPERT: ...He's gone. Class dismissed, everyone. Keep your slugs descriptive, your topics narrow, and your links contextual. For the full written curriculum behind today's rescue, work through our step-by-step virality score increase guide.
